“An ocean breeze can put a mind at ease!” After the four long days of sightseeing and Island hopping in Phuket, we decided to go for an Ocean therapy and relaxing in Koh Phi phi islands. It is the largest Island in the Ko Phi Phi archipelago and is the part of the Krabi province.
How to reach Koh Phi pHi iSLANDS
Koh Phi Phi is situated down south from Phuket and mainland Krabi. You can plan your trip to Phi Phi either from Phuket and Krabi, but remember the only means to get there is a ferry!

One can book a ferry either at any of the Local travel agents OR online via websites like PhuketFerry . One doesn’t need to worry about searching for a travel agent as they are available at every nook and corner. Unlike while booking tours and activities, there isn’t much scope for negotiation on the Ferry fares.
The online option is much easier and convenient as you can opt to include the transportation to the Pier at the time of booking. Below is the information of the piers:
Phuket – Usually Rassada Pier or could be the Sea Angel Pier
Koh Phi Phi – Tonsai Pier
Krabi Town – Konka Pier or Klong Jilad Pier
You can check the information on other piers on PhuketFerry.
Note: Please try to reach on time at the pier and there might a huge queue to get on the ferry. Also food is available on the Ferry but it is more expensive – So carry some eatables depending on the duration of the journey.
The Ferry ride from Phuket to Phi Phi is around 2.5-3 hours including a couple of stops in between. Please ask around about your pier to ensure you get down at the right place. All the ferries are Air-Conditioned with comfortable seats (seats are first come first served).
Once you get down at the Tonsai Pier, please look out for your Resort representative (with a placard) who will then escort you to their boat.
Where to stay in KOH PHI PHI ISlands
There are a lot of resorts on Koh Phi Phi islands, not many budget hotels that you will be able to find (well, we didn’t find any). And the idea behind choosing Koh Phi Phi Islands was to splurge on a luxurious stay rather than a budget hotel. Relaxing at Koh Phi Phi was our agenda and it was a great choice
We shortlisted multiple resorts including Holiday Inn Phi Phi but eventually went ahead with Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort for its amazing reviews and photos.
We met the representative from the resort at the Tonsai Pier who was waiting for us with the placard. He was very courteous and polite and escorted us to the Boat (not a fancy by a long shot) as we embarked upon a 30 minute ride to the resort. The view of the island was amazing as we passed a couple of resorts on the way.
It is important to know the check-in and check-out timings of the resort as we ended up going 4 hours later than the check-in time – late in the evening at 6 pm. However, we made sure that we ended up having a lot of fun.

The resort is marvelous – pure bliss. The check-in was smooth and they had upgraded our room as well which was amazing. The rooms are pretty good but not very luxurious but with a more rustic look. However, the resort is really huge and amazing.
And to top it all…..we got bumped to a Bungalow. 🙂

They had decorated the room very nicely for us. When we saw the “Happy Honeymoon” on the bed, for once we thought we entered someone else’s room…’cause it wasn’t our honeymoon. Nevertheless, the room was huge with a sea-view from the balcony…it was amazing! It was a perfect set up for relaxing at Koh Phi Phi Islands

For the weak-hearted, do not open the drawer of the TV unit….you will find a lizard (Jing Chok in Thai)…well it is printed on the instruction manual…but damn…it looks so real 🙂 . Lizards are considered harmless in Thailand an in most other countries as well. But in tropical areas, they are very helpful as they eat up the ever troubling mosquitoes 🙂
activities at koh phi phi islands
Relax…Swim…Eat& Drink……Relax ……………Repeat!
Most of the resorts are huge and have all the amenities for the guests to just relax and enjoy.
There are a lot of activities that you can do at the resort – Snorkeling, Swimming, etc. You can also go down south to Maya Bay (where Leonardo Dicaprio shot the movie “The Beach”). It is something you can’t miss but it is better to plan it as a day trip from Krabi or Phuket as you wouldn’t want to miss relaxing at the resort after dishing out a lot of money.

There are other parts of the island where you can go to with the help of the representative at the front desk. If you are planning to stay for longer duration then opt for these tours/trips otherwise just stay put and focus on relaxing in Koh Phi Phi
Where to eat in Koh phi phi islands
When you are at any of the resorts in you have gorge on the food from their restaurants…well..that’s the only option! There are a few restaurants in the resort – Marlin restaurant – enjoy your sumptuous breakfast buffet there…..in the noon or evening you can go down to the Coconut Grill and Bar.
The best way to spend the evening at the beach is dining under the stars.
IMportant things to remember at Koh phi phi islands
- Check the hotel check-in and check-out timings.
- Also, check the ferry timings from the piers and account for some buffer time for waiting and loading the luggage onto the ferry.
We had booked the ferry to Krabi from Tonsai Pier through PhuketFerry. The transportation from the resort to the pier is taken care of by the Resort ….do ensure you let them know the time when you would want to leave.
